Sarcoma and Melanoma

Sarcoma and Melanoma2019-02-06T15:19:13+00:00

Our Program

Our surgeons are among the most knowledgeable and experienced physicians in dealing with sarcoma and melanoma. Led by Dr. William Tseng, our program provides excellent care for patients with these rare and often challenging cancers.

We specialize in treating sarcoma and melanoma from early to advanced disease. For sarcoma, we routinely perform complex resections for tumors throughout the body, including the back of the abdomen (retroperitoneum), limbs and trunk. For melanoma, we offer wide local excision, often in combination with sentinel lymph node biopsy, depending on each patient’s unique situation. In select patients with advanced or even metastatic disease, we also provide palliative surgery to relieve severe symptoms.

We are a nationally recognized referral center for sarcoma and melanoma. We provide care for patients with these cancers from all over Southern California, the United States and internationally.

Our Approach

We provide state-of-the-art surgical care that is individualized for each patient. We strive to balance appropriately aggressive cancer surgery to provide the best long-term outcome with minimizing potential complications and preserving or improving the patient’s quality of life.

When appropriate, our surgeons also integrate surgery with other treatments as part our commitment to comprehensive cancer care. These nonsurgical treatments may include systemic therapy (chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy) or radiation therapy. Each patient is discussed at weekly multidisciplinary meetings that brings together our physician specialists in sarcoma and melanoma from surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology and pathology.
