USC Surgery / Services / Proctoscopy

A proctoscope is an office-based plastic scope that allows a doctor to examine the lining of a patient’s rectum. The patient may require an enema to clean the stool from their digestive tract. This improves visibility and helps in the detection of a range of problems in the rectum, including hemorrhoids and polyps. Sometimes, your doctor can do the same procedure with a fiber-optic camera or flexible sigmoidoscope.
