USC Surgery / Conditions / Infected Mesh

During laparoscopic hernia surgery, a mesh is implanted into the body. If the mesh becomes infected, it will need to be managed surgically. Patients who have had mesh implanted should look out for warning signs of infection such as inflammation in the abdominal wall or fever of unknown origin. These symptoms may develop weeks, months or even years after the initial hernia surgery.
